20th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
In October 2009, Australia celebrated the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
In recognition of the importance of this anniversary, all of the Children’s Commissioners and Guardians from around Australia joined together to publish a book about child rights.
The book was fully illustrated by children and young people from across Australia.
In Canberra, the Children & Young People Commissioner (CYPC) worked with local schools, child care centres and youth services to invite children and young people to contribute artwork towards the book.
The book was published in October 2009, and included artwork contributed by 17 children and young people from Canberra.
In December 2009, the CYPC launched the book in Canberra, with most of the children and young people who contributed to the book attending the launch.
Proceeds from the sale of the book go the National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect (NAPCAN), and copies of the book can be purchased from the CYPC.
For further information, please phone the CYPC on 6205 2222, or email at ACTkids@act.gov.au.
