Thinking of making a complaint?

The Human Rights and Discrimination Commissioner may only investigate complaints that have been made in writing with a signature of consent from the complainant.

Before you fill in the form you may wish to discuss the matter with an Enquiries Officer who will:

• listen
• give information about discrimination law and our jurisdiction
• provide details about how to lodge a complaint
• put you in touch with other people who can help if needed.

If you have any difficulties filling in your complaint form, please let us know so that we can suggest someone who may be able to help you.

It is very important for the success of your complaint that you link what happened to the grounds of discrimination. Sometimes there are other explanations for the setbacks that we suffer; and sometimes these setbacks (even though they are upsetting and unpleasant)do not amount to discrimination. It is up to you to provide as much information about the discrimination as you possibly can.
