What we have heard from kids, teens, and young people

It is important for children and young people to be able to have a say on issues that affect you.

We find out what children and young people, like you, have to say in a range of ways and use your views to advocate for the ACT to be a better place for children and young people to live.

What we have heard

When we have your permission to share what we hear from you, we do so in a number of ways. We publish newsletters, articles on our website, speak to decision makers or the media and also post things on these pages.

What we have heard during conversations with children and young people

This section has all the reports we have written after speaking to children and young people about lots of different topics. Our latest report is “We have big dreams.” Report from the ACT Children and Young People Commissioner’s 2025 Listening Tour.

Young Thinker Forum Pieces

The Young Thinker Forum is for children and young people in the ACT to tell us about things that are important to you, in almost any format you want! This section has all the submissions children and young people have sent to us through the Young Thinker Forum.

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the ACT and recognise any other people or families with connection to the lands of the ACT and region. We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.

HRC Child Safe Standards Statement of Commitment

We are committed to protecting and promoting the rights, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people. We are actively implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards in a way that is culturally safe and inclusive for all children and young people, including by respecting and valuing the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, and their families.

We take a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse, and will seek to ensure all employees, volunteers, contracted staff, and executives uphold their responsibilities.
