Community info session: new pathway for complaints about human rights

From 11 June, Canberrans can bring human rights complaints to the ACT Human Rights Commission. Find out more at a free community information session:

  • 18 June 2024, 12 noon to 1pm
  • Online via Teams
  • Register via Eventbrite.

The information session will include:

  • a refresher on the ACT Human Rights Act and rights protected under it
  • a refresher on the obligations of ACT Government authorities (public authorities) under the Act
  • the new Human Rights Commission complaints jurisdiction and process
  • options for conciliation and resolution through the Commission
  • tips for assisting clients of community organisations to effectively and efficiently navigate the new complaints pathway.

The Commission welcomes the introduction of legislation that provides for a new accessible complaints pathway about alleged breaches of human rights by public authorities in the ACT.
Specialised legal support for sexual assault victim-survivors welcomed

Victim Support Act and Women’s Legal Centre ACT have been selected to jointly run one of  three pilots across Australia, to provide a specialised and trauma-informed legal service for sexual assault victim-survivors.
