Your rights, in your words:

A guide to the ACT Human Rights Act 2004

A cartoon girl and teenage boy waving

Human rights are things that everyone has or can do. They are about being treated fairly, treating others fairly, and being able to make choices in your life.

The Human Rights Act 2004 is a set of laws that tell the ACT Government what they must do to protect human rights in the ACT.

These are YOUR rights, so you need to know what they are!

You have the right to information that you can understand. That is why we have designed simplified summaries of the Human Rights Act 2004 just for you!

HRC Child Safe Standards Statement of Commitment

We are committed to protecting and promoting the rights, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people. We are actively implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards in a way that is culturally safe and inclusive for all children and young people, including by respecting and valuing the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, and their families.

We take a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse, and will seek to ensure all employees, volunteers, contracted staff, and executives uphold their responsibilities.
