Outreach Programs

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program

VSACT has a program to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims. The program seeks to ensure that:

  • Culturally responsive services are available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims; and
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities know about Victim Support ACT services.

Community members can get in touch with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program by contacting us and asking for:

  • Leah House or
  • Telitha Elemes

Multicultural Program

We have a multicultural liaison officer at Victim Support ACT.  If you are from a migrant background, or are a refugee or asylum seeker, the multicultural liaison officer can support you.

We understand that your experience of violent crime in the ACT can be made worse by being away from your family supports.

Out multicultural liaison officer will listen to you to understand your needs. They will help to link you to services that can assist you with your needs. We can also help you understand the criminal justice system.

Community members can get in touch with our multicultural liaison officer on (02) 6207 2374 or at MulticulturalProgramVSACT@act.gov.au. We can make interpreting and translating services available.

Disability Advocacy Program

At Victim Support ACT, we have a dedicated Disability Advocacy Lead who is here to support victims of crime who have a disability. We understand that experiencing a crime in the ACT can be even more challenging when there are additional barriers related to accessibility, communication, or understanding your rights.

Our Disability Advocacy Lead will take the time to listen to your unique needs and experiences. They can assist you in navigating the criminal justice system and help connect you with services that are tailored to your specific needs. We are committed to ensuring that you have the support you need to feel safe and understood throughout the process.

If you or someone you know with a disability has been a victim of crime, please contact our Disability Advocacy Lead at (02) 6205 2222 or email VictimSupportIntake@act.gov.au . We can arrange for accessible communication methods, including outreach, and can provide information in various formats to suit your needs.

HRC Child Safe Standards Statement of Commitment

We are committed to protecting and promoting the rights, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people. We are actively implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards in a way that is culturally safe and inclusive for all children and young people, including by respecting and valuing the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, and their families.

We take a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse, and will seek to ensure all employees, volunteers, contracted staff, and executives uphold their responsibilities.
